After losing in the semi-finals in Sudbury where the team played very well but struggled to score goals, they found their goal scoring punch in Cheboygan. A first tournament in the USA for most of our local boys which saw their enthusiasm very high, putting Canada flag tape on their sticks an helmets showing off their country pride.
The first game was against an American team the Midland Flames. We came out scoring very quickly and very often. We scored four goals in the first, ten goals in the second and another four in the third winning in a dominant fashion 18-0.
Game two was against the Sault Lock City Bulls a team that we shared wins and losses with earlier in the year. The Sault goalie kept the game respectable as we outplayed them in every department, skating to a 2-0 victory.
Game three we were up against the home team, the Cheboygan Flames. After leading with a one goal lead in the first we kept chipping away to another strong win of 6-0.
Off to the semi-finals we were up against Midland again. Keeping focused and not looking ahead we scored on the first shift and kept it going with another dominant performance and out fourth shutout in a row winning 12-0.
In the finals a re-match against the Sault lock City Bulls. We knew that they would be out for revenge and were not going to give us this game. They opened the scoring and we followed shortly after tying it up. After one of our goals got called back, they scored early in the third holding the lead until the two minute mark when we scored to tie the game. The game went into overtime which consisted of five minute periods. After the fourth and fifth periods ended with no scoring, we got into penalty trouble. We managed to kill off a five on three and scored with a minute and twelve seconds left on the clock of the sixth period.
The players showed great skill, heart and determination by not giving up when we were behind. Everyone from great goaltending (4 shutouts) to our defense and forwards playing their best, they earned this victory.
