The information in this section was last updated in 2009 to remember those who have received recognition, team and player awards and teams with success over the many years Wawa Minor Hockey has been in operation. Many of the trophies that are awarded annually may be old, but are presented in honour of many great individuals who dedicated many years of their lives to keep the game of hockey in our community.
To look back at some of the names of the award winners; Chris Simon, Denny Lambert, Arthur Rutland, John Tavella, John Haight, Kolbee McCrea, Tanya Lamon, Aiden Wright and Ryker Killins to name a few. All have started playing hockey in Wawa and have gone on to continue playing hockey at a higher level. We are all proud to say they came from our hockey program.
Chris Simon – NHL – He was drafted 25th overall in 1990 by the Philadelphia Flyers. Chris won a Stanley Cup with Colorado Avalanche in 1996. He played for Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Chicago Black Hawks, Calgary Flames and the Minnesota Wild during his 15 year career. He has also played in Russia (KHL) for Chekhov Vityaz. He played for the Ottawa 67’s and Sault Greyhounds. (OHL)
Denny Lambert – NHL – Played in the NHL for 8 years for Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators and the Atlanta Thrashers. Presently coaching the Sault Greyhounds. Played for the Sault Greyhounds. (OHL)
Arthur Rutland – Drafted 68th Overall by Vancouver Canucks in 1979. Played semi pro for 3 years and played in Germany for 7 years and Italy for 1 season. Played for the Sault Greyhounds and the Brantford Alexanders. (OHL)
John Tavella – Played for the Sault Greyhounds in 1975-1976, winning the Rookie of the year in the Ontario Hockey League. Drafted by the Montreal Canadians 127th overall (NHL) and by the Edmonton Oilers 84th overall (WHA) in 1976.

Danny Simon – Played for the Mount Allison University.
John Haight -Played for the Kitchener Rangers in 1970-71, (OHL) then played semi-pro for 3 seasons.
Vance Henson – Played for Cornell University (NCAA), Played for Sudbury Wolves. (OHL)
Chris Buckell- Played for Georgian College. (OCAA)
Fern Albert – Played for Georgian College (OCAA) and Collingwood Shipbuilders. (Sr. A Champs)
Bill McGie – Played AAA hockey in the Sault
Steve Duchesne – Played for Georgian College. (OCAA)
Glenn Merserau – Played for Georgian College. (OCAA)
Dave Lytwenko – Played for Georgian College. (OCAA)
Don Perkins – Played for Lake Superior State from 1972-1974.
Bruce Perkins – Played for Mount Allison University
Gilles Begin – Played for the Kenora Thistles in 1975-1976. (MJHL)
Rod Spreng – Played for Mount Allison University
Scott Carruthers – Played for Sault College. (OCAA)
Robert Bryan – Played for Seneca Braves. (OCAA)
Aiden Wright – Playing for the Sault North Stars. (GNMHL)
Michael Fell- Playing for the Sault North Stars. (GRMHL)
Ryker Killins – Playing for the Sault Bantam Greyhounds (AAA)
Cameron White – Playing for the Sault Bantam Greyhounds (AAA)
Tanya Lamon – Played for the Brampton Jr. Thunder in the Professional Women’s Hockey League from 2006-2008. She is currently on a scholarship, playing at Neumann University in Pennsylvania.
Kolbee McCrea – She is playing for Burlington Jr. Barracudas’ in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. She has accepted a scholarship to in 2010.
Jerry Lacasse – Played in Italy. Played Semi-pro from 1968-1971.
Troy Turyk – Played for North Bay Centennials, Toronto St. Mikes and Sudbury Wolves. (OHL) He then played for the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats who lost in the Canadian Championship game. (NOJHL) He then played for St. Thomas University. (AUS)
Jeff Tait – He also played for the Raside Balfour Sabrecats that lost in the Canadian Championship game. (NOJHL)
Kyle Wood – Played AAA for Sault Legion and played semi pro in Michigan.
Dan MacLachlan – Played AAA in the Sault.
Brett Roberts – Played AAA in Thunder Bay.
Jacinda Mann – Playing University hockey for Ottawa.
Mathieu Brunet – Played AAA hockey.
Ryan Parise – Played AAA hockey for Nanaimo Midgets.
Travis Paradis – He is playing for the Abitibi Eskimos. (NOJHL)
Jude Rutland – Played for the Peterborough Petes.
Rod Chalmers – Played for the Elliot Lake Vikings. (NOJHL)
Tyler Gendron – Played AAA hockey in the Sault and played for Sault Thunderbirds. (NOJHL)
